Executive Summary
Although most organizations have established policies on applications that can be used for work purposes, and most employees have had a preferred application blocked by their organization or IT department, many employees plan to use their preferred applications anyway. Specifically, the majority of employees want far greater ownership of decisions on applications used for work, which requires a different approach from IT and security teams than outright bans.
Our research indicates that employees demand full control over the applications they use, even while organizations lack a way to secure them as many do not offer security APIs, support industry standards like single sign-on, and break Zero Trust principles.
